Herman is a Belgian, born in Gent and raised in Antwerp.
He always loved to paint and draw so he attended the Flemish Art Academy.
From there he traveled to Scotland where he met and married an American. He moved to New York with her and has lived there ever since.
He learned metal fabrication after working for Saunder’s Equipment supply company in Cold Spring,NY. This opened a new medium for him to pursue his art, making direct metal sculptures. He and his son now have their own metal fabrication business, Metconix, in Beacon, NY.
In 1999 he founded the non-profit arts group, Collaborative Concepts, with fellow artist, Peter Clark. In 2005, he started the Farm Show on Sandy Saunder’s farm in Garrison, NY with Collaborative Concepts. A yearly outdoor sculpture show on 100 acres, it continues to this day. He joined both Look Gallery in Mahopac, NY, and bau Gallery in Beacon, NY in 2012. His work, paintings and sculptures can be found in private and public collections.
